Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora has announced two alternatives of solving political crisis, namely electing a new president quickly or handing over the issue to the Arab League (AL), local Naharnet news website reported on Saturday.

We "either elect a president as soon as possible or (we) hand over the issue to the Arab League" to bring closer the views of bickering politicians, Seniora, who is preparing to kick off his second Arab tour, was quoted as saying.

He said the pan-Arab bloc was studying "new procedures to solve the crisis regarding Lebanese-Syrian relations."

Seniora returned to Beirut on Thursday from a tour to Arab countries aimed at shoring up support for a Lebanese demand to hold an Arab foreign ministers' meeting to discuss strained Lebanese-Syrian ties.

Lebanon is currently facing the most serious political deadlock since the end of the 1975-1990 civil war. For the first time in its history, the presidential seat has been vacant since Nov. 24, 2007 when former President Emile Lahoud stepped down.

A long-awaited parliamentary session to elect a new president has been postponed for 17 times to April 22.
