Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are meeting later Sunday in Jerusalem, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Sunday.
"President Abbas is meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert tonight in Jerusalem," said Erekat without giving any details on the topics of the meeting.
Abbas and Olmert met last week for the first time since February 19. Talks between the two sides were suspended for several weeks after a deadly Israeli military offensive in northern Gaza leaving l30 people killed.
Palestinian sources close to the talks said the unexpected meeting is not a sign of crisis between the two sides, but to talk in detail about problems facing the peace negotiations.
In addition, Erekat told reporters that President Abbas is traveling to the United States next week, where he is scheduled tomeet in the White House with U.S. President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The U.S. Administration was trying to push forward the two sides to reach an agreement on permanent status issues by the end of the year. However, both sides doubted this timetable. Source:Xinhua
