Turkish and Iranian officials signed a memorandum of understanding aimed to develop cooperation in security issues in the future, Turkish Interior Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The document came after a series of meetings earlier this week held by high-level officials of the two countries to boost cooperation against terrorist activities and on intelligence sharing, said the statement.
The two-day talks which started on Tuesday mainly focused on the fight against terrorism and drug, arms and human trafficking, Turkish Interior Ministry said in a Wednesday statement.
The two countries recently increased the level of cooperation on combating the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) as it became a source of threat to Iran which has a considerable number of Kurdish citizens.
Iran's security forces shelled PKK camps located in the Kandil Mountain of northern Iraq during past weekend, according to Turkish media. The reports, however, have not been confirmed by official sources.
Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PEJAK), PKK's offshoot in Iran, has recently boosted its activities, spurring Tehran up to seeking more cooperation with Turkey that has been fighting against the PKK for nearly 25 years.
