Islamic Hamas movement on Thursday urged residents in Gaza Strip to demonstrate on Friday in front of the sealed crossing points in a bid to end the months-long Israeli siege.

"We, in Hamas, have decided to organize a public and furious outbreak in front of Gaza crossings to demand the lift of the siege," said Ashraf Abu Daia, a spokesman for the organizers.

After Friday prayers, "the angry crowds will head towards Beit Hanoun crossing (Erez) in northern Gaza Strip and Rafah crossing on the Gaza-Egyptian border in southern Gaza Strip," according to Abu Daia.

"These demonstrations are a clear message to everyone that this harsh siege should be ended," he said.

Israel closed all crossing points in Gaza Strip last June when Hamas took over the coastal enclave by force.

Later, the Jewish state had also reduced fuel supplies to Gaza as part of efforts to pressure Palestinian militants to halt rocket attacks into southern Israel communities, making life hard for the 1.5 million population in Gaza.

Hamas is awaiting Israel's response to an Egyptian-proposed ceasefire after the Islamic movement handed over its vision to Egypt on Wednesday.
