Mortar and bomb attacks rocked different areas in Baghdad on Monday, killing two civilians and wounding 19 people others, an Interior Ministry source said.
A bomb planted in a truck detonated in the afternoon near the Nahdha area in central Baghdad, killing two people and wounding four others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In northern Baghdad, a roadside bomb went off near a checkpoint of Awakening Council group fighters in Adhamiyah neighborhood, wounding three of them, the source said.
In a separate incident, eight mortar rounds struck the al-Jazair police station in the Baghdad's eastern neighborhood of Sadr City, injuring ten policemen and damaging the station's building, he said.
Also in eastern Baghdad, a U.S. aircraft pounded a truck carrying launchers of Katyousha rockets in the Baladiyat neighborhood, destroying the truck and wounding two people, he said.
The U.S. military has not confirmed the incident yet.
Earlier in the day, a suicide bomber driving a ministry source said that a suicide bomber driving a motorcycle blew himself up at a checkpoint manned by anti-Qaida Awakening Council's group, in Camp Sara neighborhood in eastern Baghdad.
The blast killed a civilian and wounded ten people, including two of the local council's members, the source said. Also on Monday, the U.S. military said that its forces killed overnight a total of 38 militants in northeastern and eastern Baghdad where Mahdi Army Militiamen loyal to Shiite radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr are active.
