The presidential vacuum in Lebanon is a serious burden which leads to great damage on the national and regional levels, Arab league (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa said in his address to the economic forum in Beirut, reported Elnashra website Friday.
"What is needed now is the implementation of the Arab initiative, after some points were agreed on," Moussa said.
He considered that the dialogue initiative of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri "can not be refused."
Moussa arrived in Beirut on Thursday, two weeks ahead of the scheduled presidential election session on May 13. He then held separate talks with Lebanese leaders, including Army commander Michel Suleiman, Christian opposition MP Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Majority leader Saad Hariri, on the ongoing political deadlock.
Also on Thursday, Moussa said after meeting Speaker Berri "there is a chance that we can invest to achieve serious progress." He stressed that his mission is based on the Arab initiative.
Moussa has been assigned by the AL to implement the three-point plan designed to end the Lebanese crises.
The Arab initiative calls for the election of Army commander Suleiman as president, formation of a national unity government and adoption of a new election law.
Presidential election sessions have been postponed 18 times since Sept. 22 due to the lack of agreement between feuding Lebanese factions.
Lebanese presidential seat has been vacant since Nov. 24 last year when former President Emile Lahoud stepped down.
