Palestinian National Authority (PNA) security campaigns in the West Bank are meant to apply American plans targeting the Palestinian "resistance," a Hamas lawmaker said on Thursday.

Mushir al-Massri made the remarks in response to the deployment of PNA forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas in the northern West Bank city of Jenin earlier this month to restore security after an agreement with Israel.

"It is clear this deployment is a part of an American plan to end the resistance and applying the Road Map which steals the Palestinian people's rights in their lands," al-Massri told the press.

He added that PNA officials "seek to carry out what the Zionist enemy failed to carry out; chasing down the resistance to apply the Road Map peace plan in exchange for nothing."

The Israeli forces on Wednesday stormed Jenin despite the deployment of the Palestinian forces there, but withdrew later without arresting any resident.

The West Bank is administered by a Western-backed government that President Abbas formed in June after he sacked the Hamas-led government. Hamas still rules Gaza after taking it by force from Abbas' security forces.
