Gaza power station will resume operation on Sunday as Israel promised to allow fuel into the Gaza Strip, director of Palestinian Petroleum Agency (PPA) said.

Israel told the PPA that it will allow 700,000 liters of industrial diesel into Gaza to rerun the station, said PPA director Mujahed Salama.

If the 700,000 liters of diesel do not enter today, they will be allowed into Gaza on Monday with an increase reaching to 1.2 million liters.

On Saturday night, Gaza plunged into darkness after the only power plant halted operation, causing 50 percent shortage of electricity.

Salama said the diesel failed to enter because Israel closed the fuel delivery point at Nahal Oz crossing in eastern Gaza, due to Israeli holidays and mortar shells fired by Palestinian militants at Nahal Oz.

Israel sharply restricted fuel deliveries to Gaza where Hamas has been ruling since last June.
