Jordan's state security court Wednesday delivered a 15-year-jail sentence to three Jordanians who have plotted to assassinate U.S. President George W. Bush during his visit to the kingdom in 2006.
Wednesday's verdict came one and a half year after the three young men -- Nidhal Musleh al-Momani, Sattam al-Zawahrah and Tharwat Daraj -- were arrested on Nov. 28, 2006, the day before Bush arrived in the Jordan's capital Amman.
They were convicted of two charges: conspiracy to carry out terrorist attack and carrying out terrorist actions with explosives, after the court adopted some testimonies and decided to reverse two other charges which may lead them to death penalty.
The charge sheet said the three alleged Islamic militants were found with large plastic bottles filled with gasoline to be used for bombs.
They also planned to attack the American and Danish embassies in Amman, the sheet added.
The verdict is not the final one and remains open to appeal, said the court. Source: Xinhua
