Islamic Jihad movement said Wednesday it will not stick to an Egyptian-offered ceasefire unless Israel accepts the offer.
"As a pillar of resistance in Palestine, the movement will not again accept a free or unilateral lull in the occupied Palestinian territories," Khaled al-Batsh, a senior leader based in Gaza, told reporters.
The Palestinian factions, led by Hamas, accepted an Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire starting in Gaza Strip. On Monday, Egypt sent its intelligence chief Omar Suleiman to Israel to present the offer but Israel has not yet announced a clear acceptance of the proposal.
"Israel wants to keep on its attacks and aggressions until the last moment and the Islamic Jihad, in return, will continue its resistance," al-Batsh added.
The Egyptian efforts are meant to ease the life of the Palestinians in Gaza by lifting the Israeli siege on the territory and stopping the increasing Israeli military operations since last June when Hamas took over the coastal Strip by force.
A delegation from Hamas is scheduled to meet Egyptian officials on Sunday to hear Israel's final decision regarding the ceasefire.
Hamas said it will review its stance after being briefed on the Israeli one. Source: Xinhua
