The Federal National Council (FNC),the parliament of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is now posting all draft laws referred to it by the cabinet on its website for review and discussion, local newspaper Khaleej Times reported on Friday.
"This important step reveals that the FNC is keen on entrenching the principle of transparency and active participation of all sectors of society to address national issues of direct consequence to the lives of residents in the country," FNC Speaker Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair was quoted as saying.
"The phase of studying these draft laws requires canvassing all opinions of those concerned as the contributions and suggestions will enrich the discussions of the special committees formed by the FNC to research and address the laws, and will result in amending the content of the laws as necessary," he said.
According to the Constitution, federal draft laws first have to pass through FNC for review and recommendation. FNC is also seen as a forum where its members are able to question ministers.
Currently, all draft laws are published in Arabic. Source:Xinhua
