An American soldier was killed on Monday by a roadside bomb explosion in Salahudin province north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

The soldier died as a result of fatal wounds sustained from the blast in the province, the military said in a brief statement.

Two more soldiers were wounded by the blast and were evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment, the statement said.

The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

The latest death brings the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion to more than 4,080, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
