A Hamas spokesman on Sunday denied reports that Egypt is going to open a crossing point into Gaza for three days next week.
The spokesman, Ayman Taha, said that Hamas "and the Egyptian side are surprised at these reports and their sources," adding that Hamas government in Gaza was uninformed by the Egyptians about the possible reopening.
Palestinian media reported earlier that Rafah crossing point will be open for three days to allow stranded Palestinians and patients to leave the coastal strip which Israel sealed off a year ago when Hamas took it over by force.
Taha expected that the crossing will be reopened after Hamas gets an Israeli response to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire. Hamas has accepted the proposal but asked for more clarifications on the crossing issues from Israel.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' forces became inactive in Gaza Strip When Hamas took over the region. A U.S.-brokered deal stipulates that Rafah crossing can not function without the presence of Abbas' forces and European Union monitors.
However, Egypt unilaterally opens the crossing from time to time to allow Palestinian patients and Hamas leaders to leave Gaza.
