Iraqi security forces freed three physicians kidnapped in the country's western province of Salahudin a month ago, a source from the U.S.-Iraqi liaison office in Tikrit said on Monday.
Soldiers from the Iraqi Army 7th Division found the three physicians during a search operation in the town of Haditha, some 120 km northwest of Anbar province's capital city Ramadi, the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
He pointed out that information obtained from Anbar province said that the three physicians, including the head of Tikrit main hospital, his assistant and a third one, have been transported to a medical facility for treatment and check up.
Iraqi security forces detained eight people on Sunday night in Haditha for their alleged connection to the abduction of the three physicians, added the source.
A month ago, the three physicians were kidnapped while heading home in the town of Beiji, 200 km north of Baghdad when gunmen intercepted their car on the main road north of Tikrit.
