Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here on Thursday that Tehran is to host an Afro-Iranian summit late this year or next year aimed at boosting its cooperation with the continent.
Mottaki told reporters here that the African Union (AU) has sent a technical team to Tehran to coordinate the preparations before the next AU summit in Egypt in July, during which the proposal will be ratified.
The minister said Iran is set to deepen its cooperation with Africa.
He is here for the 35th Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference, which among others is discussing ways of boosting the continent's economic development,
"The government of Dr. Ahmadinejad (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) is planning strongly for the expansion of the relations with Africa," he said.
The minister said that Iran is ready to have negotiations on the issues facing the world economy like the increasing food prices and oil prices. "We are ready frankly, friendly, constructively to discuss all these problems in the world."
"The only problem it (Africa) is facing is shortage of capital for investment. They (Islamic countries) may send different investors that will create jobs and also help the world facing the food crisis," he said.
"We believe that the production of food stuff is enough .. but the injustice and discriminated system of distribution is the problem," the minister noted. Source: Xinhua
