An Iranian parliament member (MP) on Saturday protested against Britain's "illegal act," saying Iran will give necessary responses.
"Britain's move on imposing further sanctions against Iran beyond the UN Security Council resolutions is an illegal act against the Iranian nation," head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with British Ambassador to Tehran Geoffrey Adams.
He said Iran will give necessary responses to unfriendly and illegal actions, Iran's English-language Press TV reported.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had earlier said that Britain would take action to freeze the assets of the Iranian biggest bank, the Melli bank, in Britain and would start a new phase of sanctions on Iran's oil and gas accordingly.
Boroujerdi pointed out that "Iran is ready to hold serious talks aimed at reaching an understanding in line with international regulations."
The MP also strongly protested against British lawmakers' recent decision to remove the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MKO) from its list of terrorist groups following a court decision.
Iranian government says the MKO, founded in the 1960s, is "an organized one which has never denied using weapons and arms." It is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the United States and the Europe Union.
Meanwhile, Adams said Britain has no intention to damage mutual relations and London calls for the expansion of relations with Tehran based on joint interests.
He expressed hope that the package proposal presented to Tehran by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (Group 5+1) would lead to speedy resumption of talks between the two sides.
Iran has long been refusing to halt its nuclear program, claiming that it is aimed solely at peaceful energy generation, not at the nuclear weapons, as accused by the United States and its allies.
