Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday said here that the ongoing peace negotiation between the Palestinians and the Israelis had achieved little progress.

Abbas made the remarks in his address to the AU Summit in the Egyptian Red Sea resort, noting that Israel continues its hostile practice against the Palestinians, including the building of settlements and the continuing siege against the Palestinians.

He expressed his appreciation of the AU's support to the Palestinians in its struggle for liberation, as well as Egypt's efforts to broker the Gaza truce.

Recalling the Palestinians' strong solidarity with the AU as an observer since the era of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian president expected to boost cooperation between the two sides.

Under the theme "Meeting the Millennium Development Goals on Water and Sanitation", the two-day 11th AU Summit is attended by heads of State and Government or representatives of 53 AU members, as well as EU, Asian and Latin American delegates as observers.
