Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Wednesday instructed his ministers to explore the possibility of demolishing the home of a Palestinian attacker, who killed three women and injured dozens in a bulldozer rampage in Jerusalem.

Following consultations with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann and some other ministers, Olmert called to raze the home of the bulldozer driver, who lived in east Jerusalem and held an Israeli ID card, and annul the social security benefits of his family.

The ministers promised to examine the legal guidelines of each order and report back by the end of the day, so that the cabinet could begin the proceedings, local daily Ha'aretz reported.

Olmert made the instructions shortly after the man went on a killing spree in downtown Jerusalem in the early afternoon, driving a bulldozer, which overturned two buses and rammed several other cars. Three women were killed and about 40 were injured.

In a telephone conversation with Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, Barak said Israel should demolish the home of the attack in order to generate deterrence against future attacks.

The motive of the attack is still unknown. Multiple Palestinian sources suggested that the attack was an independent act carried out by the driver alone. Meanwhile, a Hamas spokesman said the incident was "a natural reaction to Israel's aggression."

Earlier Wednesday, Israeli parliament passed two bills in their preliminary reading, which called for the families of terrorists to be deprived of various social rights, such as permanent residency status and Israeli citizenship.
