Syria and Lebanon agreed on Wednesday to exchange agricultural products without any obstacles and open new markets in both countries to promote exporting production surplus.

The agricultural committee of the two countries agreed on the exchange in a memorandum of understanding after their meetings, according to the official SANA news agency.

"Syria and Lebanon are in need of a genuine integration and a continued coordination due to the one geographical site, similarity of agrarian products in both countries ... and Syria is Lebanon's gate towards Jordan and the Gulf states," Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Tala al-Sahili was quoted as saying.

Syrian Minister of Agriculture Adel Safar, for his part, expressed the will of his ministry to establish best relations of cooperation and commercial exchange between the two sides, SANA said.
