Egypt is preparing for hosting a Palestinian national dialogue conference in the next few weeks to help restore Palestinian unity, Palestinian Ambassador in Cairo Nabil Amr said on Tuesday.

Amr dismissed reports that Egypt is having second thoughts about holding the anticipated conference, noting that Egypt is determined to render the meeting a success, the Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.

Egypt has been working on this conference since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak a few days ago in Sharm el-Sheikh on the sidelines of an African Union summit, Amr said.

Earlier this month, the Palestinian diplomat said Egypt is in contact with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and all Palestinian factions to hammer out the timetable and agenda of the dialogue.

President Abbas has expressed his willingness to resume talks with Hamas which routed his security forces and ousted his secular Fatah movement from the Gaza Strip in mid June last year. Hamas expressed its welcome to the call.
