A high-ranking Iraqi police officer survived a roadside bomb explosion on Saturday in the northern city of Kirkuk which left a woman killed, a local police source said.
"Col. Ahmed Shamirani, a police chief in Kirkuk, was injured by a roadside bomb explosion which hit his convoy in the Khadhraa neighborhood in central Kirkuk," Brig. Burhan Wasif from the city Police Command told Xinhua by telephone.
Two police officers in Shamirani convoy were also wounded by the blast, Wasif said, adding that all the victims were transported to local hospitals.
It was the second assassination attempt against Shamirani who survived a similar attack more than two months ago.
Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, has been the hot bed of insurgency, sectarian and ethnic violence since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
