A senior Jordanian official said Saturday that Barack Obama, the U.S. Democratic presidential candidate, is due to visit Jordan on July 22 for talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II.
King Abdullah will receive the Illinois senator at the royal palace in Amman as part of his five-day Middle East and European tour, the official said on condition of anonymity.
The situation in the Mideast and the expectations the region's countries have of the new American administration will be focused in their talks, according to the official.
Obama's campaign team has earlier said that the Illinois senator would kick off a Mideast and European tour that includes Israel, Jordan, France, Germany and Britain but did not elaborate on the schedule.
Iraq and Afghanistan are possible on his agenda, too, according to the source, but details of his visit haven't been released due to security concerns.
Last Thursday, the Jordanian king began a visit to the United States and he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Aspen Institute in Colorado on July 21 before returning to Amman.
