An official from the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) on Sunday accused Israel of undermining the Palestinian National Authority's (PNA) measures of reinforcing law in West Bank.
"Israel acts against the PNA's efforts on the ground by weakening the Palestinian security and hindering the economic, political and security role of the Palestinian government," said Yasser Abed Rabbo, a PLO's executive committee member.
Since last week, Israel launched a crackdown against Palestinian charities and institutions in West Bank, especially in Nablus city. Israel says the campaign targets organizations linked with Islamic Hamas movement.
"The Israeli actions against the PNA are constant and programmed and target all the areas, and its timing is politically set," Abed Rabbo told Voice of Palestine radio.
In a move to protest the raids, Palestinian Premier Salam Fayyad sent a letter to the U.S. General William Fraser who was tasked to oversee the implementation of the U.S.-backed Road Map peace plan, according to Abed Rabbo.
Hamas, which controls Gaza Strip, said the Israeli crackdown against its charities in West Bank came in coordination with the security services of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah.
In June 2007, Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces in fierce battles in Gaza Strip and took over the territory. Abbas formed a Western-backed government based in West Bank following the Gaza takeover.
