Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa met with visiting Iranian chief of trade office Majid Salehi to discuss trade cooperation and bilateral relations, the Ecuadorian presidential office said Wednesday.

The meeting was held Tuesday in the Carondelet Palace, headquarters of the Ecuadorian government.

Ecuador is interested in Iran "from all points of view," according to a communique.

Salehi said everybody witnesses that Ecuador is undergoing a change, carried out by its government and people, who consider their country's future a priority.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry said in May that both countries agreed to open their trade offices in each other's territory after an "exchange of diplomatic notes."

"The opening of trade office will help maximize trade exchange and cooperation," the communique said.
