Deposed Hamas premier Ismail Haneya on Sunday urged British premier Gordon Brown to visit the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip to be briefed on the consequences of Israeli blockade.
"We call on Brown to visit Gaza Strip to see the level of humanitarian disaster caused by the (Israeli) occupation with the participation of a number of European countries, unfortunately including Britain," Haneya said.
Brown arrived Israel Saturday and met its leaders. He visited West Bank and met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Sunday.
In 2007, Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza Strip when Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and took over the territory. Abbas also consolidated his power in West Bank after firing a Hamas-led coalition and appointed a western-backed government.
Britain, like America and most of the western countries, marks Hamas as a terrorist organization. It calls on the Islamic movement to recognize Israel, renounce violence and abide by peace talks in exchange for international recognition.
