One militant of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) was killed and two others were injured as they were trying to stage an attack in eastern Turkey late Sunday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Monday.
"It was revealed that three terrorists seized a taxicab by force in Bingol province. They came to the provincial security department with bombs and weapons. The police gave immediate response to their attempt. A terrorist was killed and two others were injured in the clash," Bingol Governor Irfan Balkanlioglu was quoted as saying.
"They could not reach their bloody target. Terrorists are trying to hide their heavy loss in northern part of Iraq by attacking innocent people," the governor added.
The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in southeast Turkey. About 40,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
