Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received an invitation to go to Egypt to discuss ways of resuming inter-Palestinian dialogue, sources said Wednesday.
Egypt is also going to invite the Palestinian factions for more discussions as part of its efforts to make reconciliation between the feuding Palestinian groups of Fatah and Hamas, the sources added.
"The Egyptian leadership spared no efforts to reach a solid ground enabling the launch of an internal national dialogue to end the state of split," said Nabil Amr, the Palestinian National Authority's ambassador in Cairo.
Ahead of the discussions, Egypt will ask Hamas and Fatah to stop mutual crackdown against each other's members and supporters in both Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Fatah-dominated West Bank, Amr said.
Hamas and Abbas' Fatah movement are in an exchange of crackdown on each other in Gaza and the West Bank after Hamas arrested hundreds of Fatah members last Friday.
The Gaza arrests are being made in response to a mysterious beachside blast that killed a girl and five Hamas members. The Islamic movement accused Fatah of being behind the attack.
Last year, Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and took over the Gaza Strip. Hamas said the Gaza takeover was a result of Fatah attempts to obstruct Hamas rule after the movement won 2006 parliamentary elections.
