Jordan's State Security Court has ruled ten men who planned to join Iraqi insurgency to serve prison terms up to five years, local daily Jordan Times reported on Tuesday.
The ten men were convicted of plotting to recruit people to fight Americans in Iraq, which would undermine Jordan's relations with the United States and subject the kingdom to hostile acts.
Each of them received five-year sentence, according to the tribunal, but eight of them were commuted by half on the grounds that they were "young and deserve a second chance in life," said the court.
The two men who received the longest jail terms are at large and tried in absentia. The rest were arrested in Jordan or at the border with Syria before they carried out plans to join insurgent forces in Iraq.
They can appeal within 30 days, according to the court.
