Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a three-day visit, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Bouteflika was received at the airport by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and some other officials.
Bouteflika is accompanied by five cabinet members and a political-economic delegation, including the foreign, energy, higher education, housing and health ministers, the report added.
He is scheduled to meet with Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and some other high ranking Iranian officials.
It's the Algerian President's second visit to Iran since he came to power in 1999. Ahmadinejad visited Algeria in 2007.
The Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Chakib Khelil holds the rotating presidency of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Iran is the fourth largest oil exporter in the world and ranks second in output among OPEC members.
