Israeli border guards have put into practice a new method to scatter demonstrators, local daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday on its web site.
The dispersing apparatus, named "skunk," is operated by two manual systems and one water-spraying machine, which spurts foul-smelling liquid, said the report, adding that the border guard tested its effectivity in the last demonstration in the West Bank village of Naalin.
Following the test, the border guard reported that the demonstrators fled the scene in order to shower and change clothes, according to the report.
Border Guard Commander Yisrael Yitzhak has authorized usage of the new method, with which the authorities hope to deal with demonstrations and simultaneously reduce the number of injuries, said the report.
Until now, rubber bullets, tear gas and shock grenades are commonly used to disperse crowds. The report added that it is still unclear whether or not the new apparatus will permanently replace the previous means. Source:Xinhua
