The first batch of Iraqi refugees in Egypt left Cairo for home on Monday, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.
At the Iraqi government expenses, the 250 Iraqis who are willing to return to Iraq gathered at Cairo airport and flew home on board a free-of-charge flight.
The Iraqis have fled their home country after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, Iraq's charge d'affaires in Egypt Saad Mohamed Reda was quoted as saying.
Reda said another free flight will take off on Wednesday to send 250 more Iraqi refugees home, adding more flights will be organized according to the number of Iraqis wanting to return home.
It's estimated that about two million Iraqis migrated to neighboring countries, including Syria, Jordan and Egypt, following the 2003 Iraqi war.
