The Islamic Hamas movement on Tuesday denied receiving an Egyptian invitation to start internal Palestinian dialogue.
"We did not receive any invitation for dialogue recently," said Ayman Taha, a spokesman for Hamas. "Earlier, we have received some questions from Egypt about the goals and the issues that the dialogue should focus on."
Taha revealed that Hamas has handed over its answers to the questions by its deputy politburo chief Moussa Abu Marzouq.
Taha made the remarks following reports that Egypt has invited the Palestinian factions to Cairo to start the dialogue. All the Palestinian factions have clarified their stances through the answers to the Egyptian questions.
The dialogue, proposed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, is mainly aimed at reconciliation between rival Hamas and Fatah movements.
In 2007, Hamas routed Fatah-dominated security forces and took control of the Gaza Strip, politically separating it from the West Bank where Abbas set up a Western-backed government. Source:Xinhua
