Spain on Wednesday strongly condemned the deadly bombing attack the same day in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, which killed at least 17 people and injured some 40 others.

In a statement, the Spanish government expressed regrets and offered condolences to the families of the victims and hoped the injured would recover as soon as possible.

Spain reaffirmed its "full support" to the Lebanese authorities to fight against terrorism.

A bus exploded Wednesday morning in Tripoli. Ten of the killed and most of the injured were army soldiers, Lebanese LBC TV reported earlier.

The blast occurred hours before Lebanese President Michel Suleiman's arrival in Damascus on a ground-breaking visit to Syria for talks that would redefine ties between the two neighbors.
