Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks on Saturday with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora in the northern Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria.

During the one-hour meeting, the two leaders discussed the current situation in Lebanon and the bilateral relations between the two countries, the Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.

They also talked about a recent agreement between Lebanon and Syria to set up diplomatic ties, said the report.

On Wednesday, Lebanon and Syria agreed to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level, said a declaration following the summit between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman.

Following the talks with Mubarak, Seniora will meet Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on the situation in Lebanon.

The Lebanese prime minister is also expected to have talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef later in the day on economic cooperation, especially in the fields of electricity and gas, according to MENA.
