A blast in western Turkey's Izmir province injured 11 people on Thursday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

local NTV reported earlier that 13 people, including one military officer, three soldiers and eight policemen, were wounded in the explosion in Izmir.

A car parked in front of military and police shuttles in Konak town of Izmir exploded at around 7:45 a.m. local time (0445 GMT), according to Anatolia.

Izmir Governor Cahit Kirac was quoted as saying that three soldiers and eight police officers were wounded in the blast.

Witnesses said that the explosion was very strong.

The injured have been taken to hospitals for treatment, added the report.

On Tuesday, a car exploded on a highway on the outskirts of the southern city of Mersin, killing a suicide bomber and injuring nine police officers.
