Southern Israel was hit by two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip on Friday evening, causing no damage or injuries, local news service Ynet reported.

The Qassam rockets, which were launched from the northern part of the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave, landed in open areas in the southern Israeli town of Ashkelon, said the report.

Such attacks have become rare since an Egypt-brokered cease-fire took effect on June 19, which calls on both sides to stop cross-border violence and requires Israel to ease its blockade on the strip.

However, over 20 Qassam rockets have been fired towards southern Israel as well as a large number of mortar shells, the report said.

Local residents were quoted as saying that the attacks have become daily, and many worry the fragile truce may be heading to an end.

The Israeli side has not announced any measure to respond to the latest incident.

Previous such violations of the truce often prompted the Jewish state to temporarily close its border crossing with the poverty-stricken area, causing a halt of the flow of supplies for some 1.5million Gazan residents.

The last rocket attack took place on Tuesday, also causing no casualties. In response, Israel shut down the crossings till Thursday noon.
