Palestinian Petroleum Agency (PPA) said Monday that shipments of cooking gas into Gaza will witnesses a major increase.
PPA director Mujahed Salama said the amount of the cooking gas which Israel sends to Gaza may reach 300 tons per day after the increase is applied this week.
These days, Israel allowed between 75-100 tons of this essential gas into the besieged territory.
The progress was made following urgent contacts between the PPA, the Palestinian Gas Stations Owners Union and the Israeli Dor company which provides Gaza with the fuel, according to Salama.
"The demand on gas increases in Ramadan," Salama said, referring to the Muslim's fasting month which starts in early September.
Israel started to reduce fuel shipments into Gaza last September, three months after Hamas took over the territory, in a bid to isolate the Islamic movement.
The crisis hit the cooking gas after many people use the cooking gas for their cars instead of gasoline, Salama said, adding 40 percent of the gas entered Gaza now goes for the vehicles rather than the kitchens.
