Lebanon's parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has postponed the parliamentary vote on a new draft election law until Sep. 25, after majority legislators refused to adopt the new law without further reforms, local Daily Star reported Wednesday.

Berri decided to refer the law to a parliamentary committee in charge of discussing the reforms, said the report, adding the parliamentary session on Sep. 25 would likely adopt both the law and reforms in one session

The Hezbollah-led opposition coalition wants the parliament to tackle the bill on electoral constituencies as outlined by the Doha accord between the country's rival factions, while the majority is demanding further amendments.

The new election law for the country's next year election was the third phase of the Doha accord signed on May 21 between Lebanese rival leaders.

It agreed upon in Doha relied on smaller constituencies that would ensure better representations according to opposition leaders, but it needs to be passed by parliament to be applied in next summer general elections.
