Jordan has expressed its readiness to provide electricity to Lebanon, local daily The Jordan Times reported on Thursday.
Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Khaldoun Qteishat made the promise at a meeting Wednesday with electricity and energy ministers of Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, according to the report.
Lebanon earlier asked Egypt, Syria and Jordan to provide 200 megawatts round-the-clock.
Qteishat said that Jordan can supply electricity either through the joint electric grid or by generating and selling electricity to Lebanon, or by both.
According to Qteishat, the kingdom offered to sign an agreement with Lebanon to provide 50-70 megawatts of electricity on daily basis at special prices until the end of 2009.
Lebanon has been suffering from a shortage of electricity and its production capacity is well short of its needs.
