Two American soldiers have been killed in Iraq in a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The two soldiers, assigned to Multi-National Division - Baghdad, were killed shortly after midday on Thursday when insurgents struck their patrol with an improvised explosive device in eastern Baghdad, the military said in a statement.

The names of the deceased soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

About 4,154 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
