Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived here on Friday for talks with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on the inter-Palestinian feud, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
During the talks scheduled for Sept. 6, the two leaders will discuss the Egyptian mediation efforts to help heal the inter-Palestinian rift among rival Palestinian factions, particularly between Hamas and Abbas' Fatah.
The Palestinian factions, under the auspices of Egypt, are expected to start a comprehensive national dialogue immediately after Eid Al-Fitr (Lesser Bairam) holiday, said the report.
In the past months, Egypt has been trying to broker a Palestinian reconciliation after it succeeded in brokering a ceasefire in June between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement which rules Gaza.
In late August, Egyptian officials started bilateral talks with delegations of Palestinian factions to hammer out a unified stance among Palestinians to overcome the current inter-Palestinian crisis.
Following the bilateral meetings, Egypt will then oversee a comprehensive Palestinian dialogue to help the Palestinians get out of the current crisis and rifts among rival movements, particularly between Fatah and Hamas.
