Arab foreign ministers are expected to discuss means of healing the current inter-Palestinian rift during a meeting of Arab League (AL) Council set to open later on Monday.

In the 130th ordinary session of the AL Council meeting, the Arab Foreign ministers will tackle a draft resolution on the Palestinian cause and the Arab efforts to ease tensions among rival Palestinian factions.

According to earlier reports, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to attend the AL meeting to brief the Arab officials on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and efforts exerted to end the inter-Palestinian feud.

The Cairo-based pan-Arab body is supporting Egypt's efforts to reach Palestinian national reconciliation, said the Egyptian MENA news agency.

In late August, Egyptian mediators started bilateral talks with delegations of Palestinian factions to hammer out a unified stance among Palestinians to overcome the current inter-Palestinian crisis, particularly between Hamas and Fatah.

The Palestinian factions, under the auspices of Egypt, are expected to start a comprehensive national dialogue in early October.

Other thorny issues in the Middle East and the Arab world, such as the situation in the western Sudanese region of Darfur, are also high on the agenda of the AL Council meeting.
