The Jordan Rally has appointed its first ever female to take the rein of the upcoming FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), local daily The Jordan Time reported on Tuesday.

Randa Nabulsi will be in charge of the Jordan round of the FIA MERC held from October 16-18, stepping up from the deputy clerk of the course position she impressively held when Jordan hosted the World Rally Championship (WRC) in April of this year.

"A lot has changed since those early days," said Nabulsi. "The WRC has taken motor sport, not only in Jordan but in the region as a whole, to a new level and it is important that we display these new standards of organization when we hold our Middle East event next month."

Nabulsi has been deputy clerk of the course for the past five years and has also served as a competitor relations officer. Her all-round knowledge of the sport and the event in particular made her a natural choice for clerk of the course.

The Jordan Rally MERC gets into gear with an opening ceremony in Al Hussein Gardens in Amman. The sporting side then moves to the Dead Sea for two days of non-stop high-octane action.

The region's top stars, including Nasser Al Attiyah of Qatar, are expected to join the field. Fans can expect another fiesta of motor sporting thrills and spills around the world class Dead Sea valley tracks.
