A senior United Nations official in Gaza on Thursday said only a fair political settlement can secure the rights of the Palestinian people.
John Ging, operations director of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), said the humanitarian aid is not the only thing to achieve justice for the Palestinians.
"A fair political solution enables the Palestinians to get their rights in work, travel and all other rights given in the universal declaration of human rights," Ging told reporters in Gaza.
Israel imposed a blockade in the Gaza Strip last year after Islamic Hamas movement seized power by force in the territory which used to be ruled by the Fatah-dominated Palestinian National Authority (PNA).
Ging said, "We deal with the political conflict and the solution should be political, not only humanitarian."
In June, Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel toease the blockade and end the violence. Despite the relative calmness, Israel still limits the movement of the Palestinians in and out of Gaza and prevents a natural flow of cargo. Source:Xinhua
