A Jordanian political group has warned against a proposal that designates Jordan as a permanent homeland for the Palestinians in the country, local daily The Jordan Times reported on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, voiced the warning following recent media reports indicated that world leaders are considering several proposals over "permanent homeland" for Palestinians, including the "Jordan option".
Though Jordanian Foreign Minister Salah Bashir has denied the existence of an agreement with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) over such a proposal, the IAF called the measure a "direct threat to Jordan and its security and stability."
"At this delicate moment, efforts are accelerating to undermine the Palestinian cause and abandon the right of the Palestinian people to return to their homeland," said IAF's statement, accusing political leaders of "conspiring" to replace the right of return with compensation.
There are around 4.5 million Palestinian refugees across the region with 1.9 million refugees registered in Jordan, according to UN statistics.
