The death toll from two car bomb explosions in western Baghdad on Wednesday rose to 8 with 25 others injured, an Interior Ministry source said.
"The latest reports said that 8 civilians were killed and 25 others wounded by the coordinate two car bombings," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier the source put the toll at five killed and 20 wounded when two booby-trapped cars parked near the busy Kendi intersection in Harthiya neighborhood went off in a quick succession and caused the casualties.
The powerful blasts also caused damages to several nearby civilian cars, the source said.
In separate incident, a ministry source said that Esam al-Timimi, local mayor of Baghdad's al-Jadida district, or New Baghdad, in southeastern the capital, escaped unhurt a roadside bomb explosion near his convoy earlier in the day.
The attack which took place in Zaiyounah neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, killed a civilian and wounded Timimi's driver anda bodyguard, the source added.
Earlier, the source said that an Iraqi policeman was killed and14 people were wounded in three bomb attacks in Baghdad.
The attacks which came a day after General Ray Odierno took command of the U.S.-led coalition troops in Iraq from David Petraeus, giving the new leader a reminder of hard task ahead.
