Iran has become a threat not only to Israel's safety, but also to the whole world, so that the international community must take proper measures, Israeli Ambassador to Austria Dan Ashbel said here Thursday.

Ashbel told a press conference held by Austrian Press Club that Iran has posed a threat to wipe off Israel from the world map. It would be strictly prohibited that one member of UN puts existential threats to another member.

Ashbel also believed that although Iran has put threats mainly on Israel, but its actions as supporting terrorism, developing intermediate-range missiles and even secretly developing nukes have actually become a threat to "all his neighboring countries and the whole western world", because modern terrorism has no country boundaries.

Ashbel also regarded Iran as the root of danger. He believed that the UN had not carried out enough sanctions against Iran, therefore, Israel calls on the EU and the UN to impose "targeted sanctions" against Iran, and "Iran must be under more pressure" so as to be more effectively restricted not to endanger the whole world.

"Israel seeks peaceful relationship with its neighbors from the day the country was founded 60 years ago, which was clearly written in our Declaration of Independence," said Ashbel.

Ashbel also noted that on the issue about Palestine, Israel "hopes to avoid any conflict or war", and it is a feasible solution that the two countries acknowledge each other.
