Israeli forces arrested nine Palestinians in the West Bank Sunday night and on Monday morning, Palestinian security sources said.
Among the detainees was a senior Islamic Jihad commander who was arrested in northern West Bank city of Jenin, the sources added. Other detentions were reported in cities of Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus.
The commander, Naji Naza, was arrested near his house after Israeli special forces ambushed him, said a spokesman for the movement's military wing al-Quds Brigades.
The militant escaped to a house but the Israeli forces called for reinforcement, surrounded the house, exchanged fire with more fighters and stormed the house, arresting Naza, the spokesman added.
The Israeli army raids West Bank cities and villages almost every night, chasing down Palestinians said to be wanted by the Israeli intelligence services.
But Human rights groups say the Israeli arrests were arbitrary. The Nablus-based International Solidarity Organization for Human Rights reported that 200 Palestinians were arrested in the West Bank last month, including 25 youngsters and three women.
