Jordan's king Abdullah II on Tuesday urged to seize time to push ahead the peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis, according to Royal Hashemite Court.

The king made the remarks during a phone call with Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who is mandated to forge a new Israeli government.

Abdullah on the phone stressed to seize time available and speed up negotiations between the two parties in line with the two-state formula, hoping that "this will eventually conduce to a lasting settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict."

The two leaders also discussed ways to activate Palestinian-Israeli peace talks in the upcoming period.

At the U.S.-hosted Annapolis peace conference on Mideast held last November, Israel and the Palestinians agreed to launch talks to solve the permanent status issues and to reach an agreement before the end of the year. However, no significant progress has been announced so far.
