The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday witnessed the inauguration of the country's first female judge Khulood Ahmed Jawan Al Dhaheri, the official Emirates News Agency reported.

Dhaheri took the oath before Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of presidential affairs and chairman of the judiciary department of Abu Dhabi, the largest emirate of the oil-rich Gulf Arab country.

"The appointment of a woman judge is certainly a unique experience in the UAE," Sheikh Mansour said.

The Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department "will provide all necessary support to Khulood who made history by becoming the first woman judge in the country," he added.

Dhaheri, for her part, pledged to serve her country in the bestway, noting that "The decision to appoint female judges helps consolidate UAE women's growing role in public life."
